We posted Stephen Spielberg's letter to Chinese president Hu Jintao last Spring. In the letter, Mr. Spielberg speaks of his enthusiasm for his role in the upcoming Olympics in Beijing, but he also spoke of his strong work against genocide through the Shoah Foundation Institute. Mr. Spielberg concludes the letter by adding his voice to those who fervently appealed to China to reverse their policy toward the Sudanese government.
Now, with China showing no progress in their adherence toward anything remotely resembling human rights, Mr. Spielberg has withdrawn his support and his role in the 2008 Beijing Olympics.
We applaud Mr. Spielberg's actions, and hope that his stance is adopted more widely around the world. Surely others will follow suit.
