TEXT: Tibetans in EXile Today, 2008
Welcome to the TEXT (Tibetans in EXile Today) Project at the University of Arkansas in Fayetteville. Run in conjunction with the Fulbright College Honors Program and the Study Abroad Office, TEXT will begin in the summer of 2008 an oral history project designed to gather and record the stories of Tibetans who are currently living in exile in India. Led by a Tibetan monk, Geshe Thupten Dorjee, and Professor Sidney Burris, Director of the Fulbright College Honors Program and Religious Studies, our students will travel to monasteries in Mondgod and Dharamsala where they will begin to interview and photograph the monks who escaped Tibet in 1959. Our intention is to preserve the stories and images of this complex and important culture by constructing an online archive that will eventually make these records available to scholars, historians, students, and all of those who are interested in the history and culture of Tibet.
If you're interested in applying, you need to begin with our Study Abroad Office. Have a look at their website, download an application form, or just contact them, and they'll get you started.
If you've already been accepted to the program, and you're ready to begin preparation for the trip, then start working your way through "So You're Going to India . . ."
